THE AL AIN SOUK REPRESENTS THE HISTORIC SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC HUB OF THE CITY. LOCATED ON THE NORTHEAST BOUNDARY OF THE AL AIN OASIS, WITHIN THE BUFFER ZONE OF THE AL AIN WHS, THE COMPLEX WAS BUILT IN THE 1970S OVER A PRE-EXISTING MARKET, AS A PART OF THE NEW CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT, AND CONTRIBUTED IN SHAPING THE MODERN DOWNTOWN DISTRICT OF THE CITY SINCE THE EARLY POST-OIL PERIOD. OVERTIME, THE AL AIN SOUK EXPANDED TO COMPRISE SEVERAL BUILDINGS LAID OUT LINEARLY ALONGSIDE A MOSQUE; THE SITE TODAY COMPRISES SOUK A AND SOUK B. THE AL AIN SOUK RETAINS VERY STRONG SOCIAL, URBAN, ARCHITECTURAL AND HISTORICAL VALUES WHICH SOLIDLY ESTABLISH ITS ROLE AS A PHYSICAL LEGACY OF AND HISTORIC ANCHOR TO THE SENSE OF PLACE AND COMMUNITY MEMORY OF AL AIN.
